How to clean your DogLeggs:
Machine wash in warm or cold water. Hang dry. Most hair will not come out with washing, we recommend using a tapeless lint roller (available from Care-A-Lot and other pet catalogs). This is how we clean the fabric here at DogLeggs. Lay the product to be cleaned, on a hard surface and roll with tapeless roller. When the roller is full of hair, wash under faucet, dry by rolling on a synthetic chamois and continue cleaning the fabric. To clean the Velcro® hook, a flea comb works great! The comb can lift out the hair from the hook.
A client's cleaning solution:
Tanner has fluid draining from his elbows
due to ulcers. Nora has developed her wash routine for both pair of DogLeggs.
I have 2 sets of DogLeggs ( one to wash and one to wear - they do take several hours to air dry ).
I have been washing them in mesh " lingerie bags " on "permanent press" warm wash / warm rinse cycle. They each get washed once or twice a week - so they've been washed quite a bit. I wash them alone in the machine, as anything else in there leaves lint stuck to every piece of velcro !
I have found that using a detergent that is " fragrance free" is best and *no* fabric softener as that leaves a coating on any fabric and makes it non absorbent. Since it is a small load, I have been adding 1/4 cup regular strength chlorine bleach ( Clorox ) once the tub is full and agitating.
Prior to adding the clorox , the DogLeggs were getting a bit stinky, and detergent with fragrance ( even febreze ) or non-chlorine all fabric bleach or lysol laundry disinfectant did nothing to help. I was finally resigned to having them fade out with the first chlorine wash ( anything to make them smell better ), but was pleasantly surprised when they came out looking just fine (mine are the all black color) and boy oh boy did they smell better !.
I also turn the leg parts inside out to wash, with the velcro re-attached, so it doesn't stick to everything else, then turn them right side out and smooth out / re-shape the elbow pockets and lightly attach the velcro before hanging up to dry (or they dry out of shape).
I can't remember when we got these (7/07), but it's been several months and he wears them 24/7. They are still very functional , although they do stretch a bit with time. I have been thinking about getting another pair to save "for dress" :o), when we go out "in public" or have company, so he can look as clean and handsome as possible for his fan club ;O).
