How to Measure Your Dog for DogLeggs™ Braces

DogLeggs™ braces provide padding and support for a number of conditions. Each product is custom-sized for your pet. It is up to you or your vet to provide us with your pet’s measurements when ordering our products.

We understand that it can be difficult to measure your dog for DogLeggs™ braces. Dogs move, and figuring out which areas to measure varies based on the type of brace your dog requires. However, it’s important to get accurate measurements before placing your order. This helps ensure that the product does not slip out of place. It also ensures adequate coverage and support. This is important for the proper treatment and comfort of your pet.

Full Length Adjustable DogLeggs™ Measurements

Our Full Length Adjustable DogLeggs™ provide padding and support for lick granulomas, skin lesions associated with radiation therapy, post-operative care, elbow osteoarthritis, wounds, incisions, and abrasions. At DogLeggs™, we custom size these braces based on the measurements you provide.

When measuring your dog for Full Length Adjustable DogLeggs™, use a flexible measuring tape and start by measuring from the point of the elbow on one side of your dog to the point of the elbow on the other side of your dog. Make sure the tape measure sits against your dog’s skin for the most accurate measurement.

Measure around the left leg at the point of the elbow, then again four inches below the elbow. If this measurement is six inches or less, measure halfway between the point of the elbow and the top of the paw. Repeat for the right leg.

Measure around the left leg at the top of the paw. Repeat for the right leg, then measure the distance from the point of the elbow to the top of the paw on each leg.

Standard Adjustable DogLeggs™ Measurements

Our Standard Adjustable DogLeggs™ provide support and padding for elbow hygromas, decubital ulcers, pressure sores, calluses, lick granulomas, elbow osteoarthritis, skin lesions associated with radiation therapy, post-operative care, wounds, abrasions, and incisions.

Using a flexible measuring tape, measure from the point of the elbow on one side of your dog to the point of the elbow on the other side. Measure around the left leg at the point of the elbow, then again four inches below the elbow. Repeat with the right leg. If this measurement is six inches or less, measure halfway between the point of the elbow and the top of the paw. Finally, measure the distance from the point of the elbow to the top of the paw on each leg.

If your dog has an elbow hygroma, make sure you include it in your measurements. This might result in a different measurement for each leg. We custom size our DogLeggs braces based on the measurements you provide. We can customize our product to fit your dog, even if its legs are different sizes.

DogLeggs™ for Front Leg Amputee Measurements

Front leg amputees have an increased risk of trauma to the remaining elbow. Our DogLeggs™ for Front Leg Amputees provide support and padding for dogs that have undergone forelimb amputation. These braces help prevent and treat a number of conditions.

Start by measuring around the neck where the collar sits. Measure around the chest, immediately behind the front leg. Measure around the waist, just past the last rib. Next, you will need to measure the distance from the base of the neck to the waist. Measure around the remaining leg at the point of the elbow, then again four inches below the elbow. If this measurement is six inches or less, measure halfway between the point of the elbow and the top of the paw. Finally, measure the distance from the point of the elbow to the top of the paw. If your dog has an elbow hygroma, include it in your measurements. This helps ensure an accurate fit.
